In its inaugural year of 2013-2014, Henry Ford Community College (NCWA) has 11 wrestlers on the official roster with a wide variety of skill levels. We have a true beginner in the sport, a state champion and everything in between.
If you know a former high school wrestler who is interested in getting a 2nd chance, encourage him to visit the Welcome Center at HFCC and to enroll for the Winter Term 2014. https://www.hfcc.edu/student-services/welcome-center Grant MacKenzie Adrian BarajasI want to share an inspirational story on how wrestling can change a person’s life for the better. Adrian Barajas contacted me in August and expressed interest in joining the wrestling club at Henry Ford Community College. During our short phone conversation, I learned two important things: 1) Adrian never wrestled before because his high school did not offer the sport. 2) Adrian was too heavy to compete. Adrian weighed a whopping 350 pounds. Unfortunately, 285 is the maximum limit a wrestler can weigh in order to compete. Practice started October 1st and Adrian is consistently present 4 days per week. The guys in the club who have experience with wrestling work with him on technique and educate Adrian about the rules. As a coach, I’m proud of the compassion, maturity and teamwork displayed by the young men in the club. I have witnessed an incredible transformation. IN ONLY 5 WEEKS, ADRIAN HAS LOST 46 LBS. HE NOW WEIGHS 304!!!! Welcome to the Hawks & Wolverines Blog!
Updates and highlights will be kept here to document the season. Become a fan and follow us on facebook at "Hawks and Wolverines Wrestling Club" as well. We are constantly looking for new talent to join the club. You must attend Henry Ford Community college or University of Michigan-Dearborn to compete. The goal is to build a solid college wrestling (NCWA) program in Dearborn, MI. hy·poth·e·sis noun \hī-ˈpä-thə-səs\: an idea or theory that is not proven but that leads to further study or discussion
Hypothesis: There is a need/demand for a NCWA collegiate wrestling program in Southeastern Michigan. Experiment: Henry Ford Community College and University of Michigan-Dearborn offer NCWA wrestling programs. There are 38+ high school wrestling teams in Wayne County. The Hawks and Wolverines Wrestling Club should grow into solid programs over the next 5 years. |
